Year 8: Number and Algebra

This strand builds on Year 7, introducing more complex number concepts and algebraic techniques.

Number: Students work with rates, ratios, and percentages to solve everyday problems. They learn the index laws and apply them to whole numbers. They are also introduced to rational numbers (like fractions or recurring decimals) and irrational numbers.

Financial Maths: This is extended to include solving problems involving profit and loss.

Algebra: Students learn to expand and factorise algebraic expressions (e.g., 3(x+2) becomes 3x+6, and vice versa). They solve more complex linear equations and learn to graph linear relationships on a Cartesian plane.
