Year 8: Measurement and Geometry

This strand introduces new shapes and expands on 3D objects.

Measurement: Students learn to calculate the circumference and area of circles. They also find the perimeter and area of other shapes like parallelograms, rhombuses, and kites. They calculate the volume of prisms (like cylinders or triangular prisms) and convert between units of area and volume.

Geometry: The focus shifts to congruence. Students learn the conditions for triangles to be congruent (identical in shape and size) and use this to deduce the properties of different quadrilaterals.
